I Don't Know If You Know

I've been bumming out the past few days, but maybe it's time I share some fun news: I am back at school, and this is my last year here! I also have an internship at Good Housekeeping magazine (Hearst Corporation) in New York City this fall. I've only been one day so far, but I think I sort of love it. More on that later.

Also, everything I've been wearing lately is from Wet Seal, which is really odd. This dress is. Normally I don't shop there much, and I definitely didn't buy all of this recently, nor was it all in one trip. Guess I've just been drawn to their label lately.

I believe I can fly? Ummm.

I Wanted to be With You Alone

Goodness me, I have been such a bad blogger! Last you heard from me was Saturday night before I spent the evening partying with mostly strangers on various floors in my building. Sunday and Monday were spent with my friends from all over on Long Island and in New York City. I hit up so many of my old favorite places - The Vibe Lounge, Effin Gruven (favorite LI bar!), and Vudu Studios (recording studio) - and saw so many of my favorite people that I've been missing. My friends in The Scenic and their shows were technically the main focus, but there was a lot more fun had beyond those. Tuesday and yesterday were intensive homework catch-up sessions, and tonight I'll be in Connecticut for another Scenic show.

I know I never blogged before, but this is the life that I've been dying to return to. So I've been keeping busy, but I've missed some outfits. I apologize. Here's me today.

I feel like these are grainier than usual today. I also look unusually flat-chested. Not complaining!

Genuine and Unprepared

So Philly was an incredible time. Just seeing all my friends and partying until 6am was amazing. Saw lots of faces I haven't seen in ages from all over - Philly, Boston, Connecticut, New York - and met some new friends as well. I loved it. Yesterday I came back to New York and relaxed all day. I spent all day today with my various floormates, and tonight I'll be going out once more.

I had fun shooting today too, so I took a million pictures. Apologies.

You may appreciate the fact that I edited out the red eye today. Except for the one picture that I couldn't edit for some reason.

A Little Bit of Housekeeping

So I'm thinking of including more content in my blog, because mainly I post outfits and gratuitous Katy Perry pictures. I do find a lot of inspiration that I never get around to posting, though. I may very well start posting more than once every day, because I'm not sure I'm too keen on mashing everything together in one daily post (like I did in this one). I think I'll do it gradually (and at my own leisure), but there are no rules here. Anything goes.

Today, I kind of freaked out over two items from the-factory-vintage on eBay

If this would fit me (I'm a 34 bust, not 32), I wouldn't be sharing it with you, I'd have it selfishly bookmarked for myself.

I own too many sequined things already to justify purchasing this.

I also figured I'd share with you a couple pictures from today. I wore this outfit already in my Wild Winter post on January 18th, but I realized, I never showed it without the hoodie! I thought it looked particularly nice with just the vest over the shirt.

And lastly, how cool is this Tetris quilt? Maybe I'm just too nerdy for my own good, but I beat a version of Tetris on an old computer when I was younger and didn't know what to do with my life once I did. This brings back fond memories.

Kiss My Sass

I haven't had much to say, as I've been mainly engrossed in work and spending all my time in my neighbors' room, but I will say that I love the floor of the building I've moved into. The people that live here are a diverse bunch, but they're all pretty close-knit as well. And yet everyone is so friendly, knocking on my door just to introduce themselves and being so accommodating and accepting.

As I was taking pictures today, I was thinking that I want to get a little more interesting with my photoshoots. I just need to think of some way to do that.

As badass as I could possibly muster in a pink dress and a belt with a butterfly on it.

I've been wearing jeans often lately due to snow and feeling weird about it. But still...

I had just come in from the snow for the third time today.

That tank is shiny and velour and I've had it since my freshman year of high school. Wow.

I've had this cardigan forever and never worn it. It has a faux fur collar and it ties closed with a ribbon. Kind of cute, I think.

The problem with most shirts is, I have a long torso and I always have some skin showing. I hate it.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. I went to a lame little party on Friday, did some shopping Saturday, and watched the Super Bowl on Sunday. I'm still sicker than sick, but I'm surviving.

I'm wearing a ridiculous shirt today that says "I'M THE SH!T" because it makes me laugh. My hoodie reminds me (and everyone else) of Dance Dance Revolution. And also, I'm wearing my new Diesel jeans. Lovely.

I rolled my jeans under instead of cuffing them because they were a bit long.

An odd face indeed.

I practically lived in this hoodie last year.

Relax, this gets even nerdier.

Because a picture of the back of the jeans was necessary, too. I didn't spend $250 on them for nothing! Now I have no money at all, but I'm happy. Broke and happy.

What Won't I Wear?

I don't aim to create any rules when it comes to style, but over the years, I've obviously cultivated my own list of likes and dislikes when comes to dressing myself that relate to not only what I find aesthetically appealing, but also what does and doesn't suit my body. Which begs the question, what won't I wear?

I've often thought about this before, but was never so bold as to post it until Toni laid it all out last week in her "Trends I Loathe" post . Truth be told, I've had this list saved in a file since August, but in the interest of politeness, kept it under wraps. Here it is now, my list of things I'm never going to wear. Never say never, though, right?

1. Denim rompers/overalls/dresses/onesies/shirts. Too much denim. Yuck. I do have a denim jacket and a dark denim blazer, but I can't bring myself to wear them with jeans.

2. Peep-toe shoes. I can't explain my aversion to them, I'm just not a fan. It might be ok in a sandal, though.

3. Drop-waist dresses. I don't think they look bad, but they're not for me. Not with the boobs I've got! I look like I'm completely round. I'm a slave to the empire waist.

5. Harem pants. Everyone else can wear them all they want, but I just say no.

7. Mint green. The only color that I'm truly repulsed by. I hate it more than I hate orange. On the other hand, I love sea foam green. Go figure. And just because the picture reminded me, don't expect to see me in a polo shirt, either.

Not much to say for today. I'm still sick and feeling awful, but I'm starting my new classes. This morning I had feature/magazine writing and copy editing back to back with the same teacher, who I had last semester and whom I like a whole lot. Later I have some media law class. Fun fact: I hate law and politics.

My hair was in no way presentable today. Voila, a hat.

Today is the first day of classes for me. I've already been to my photojournalism class and the weather was miserable. I took these photos after braving the snow and freezing rain, so my hair was a little damp and my boots were soaked through. Not only that, but I woke up sick this morning, so pardon mine and my room's appearance. I have one class left today, my fairy tales in English & American literature class. Sweet.

Yes, I am wearing striped jeans, which kept sneaking out of my boots. I was going to make them into skinny jeans, but I forgot I had them until last week or so.

Weird face. I don't care though, I'm all about embracing who I am... I guess.

I've wasted no time going shopping here on Long Island... I hit up the Roosevelt Field Mall, which happens to be one of the most amazing malls I've ever seen, as well as the closest mall to me currently... Even though I can't afford half of the stores, I can go and drool on everything. I bought a skirt from American Apparel, a pair of Diesel jeans (my wallet is crying), some great stuff I've been eying from Forever 21, some makeup at Sephora, and a new battery for my Swatch (yep, I own a Swatch).

2. People who don't pay attention to where they're going in the mall/any given store and don't realize (or care!) that they're in my way.
3. Being interrupted.
4. Seagulls.
5. Cold weather. But I do like dressing in winter clothes. Quite a conundrum.
6. When I'm hanging out one-on-one with a friend and they never stop texting. It's incredibly rude.
7. People with huge amounts of spending money. Whatever, I can hate because I'm jealous, right?
8. People who do lame things just to feel validated. For example, girls who follow bands around just to try and get close with them.
9. Cutting my toenails.
10. Sarah Jessica Parker's style on Sex and the City. There, I said it, and no, it's not a crime. I know every fashionista just adored her, but I didn't get it. Yuck.

1. I'm directly descended (like, 12th great-granddaughter or something) from Roger Conant, the person who founded my hometown of Salem, Massachusetts in 1626. (Salem Witch Trials, anyone?)
2. I've never had a sunburn. I used to be really tan as a kid, but now when I go out in the sun, I don't tan or burn at all.
3. I CAN NOT multiply two two-digit numbers together, even if I try to do it out on paper. I never learned how. I hate math and I refuse to do it.
4. I've slept on more strangers' floors than I care to divulge.
5. I have had a crush on Jason Schwartzman since Rushmore came out in like, 1998. (Ha, I couldn't think of any more facts...)

Fly Like Paper

Just so you know, I'm moving back to school in New York (Long Island, to be exact) tomorrow, which is why I haven't really been able to read very many blogs lately and catching up is going to be impossible, but once I get settled again, I'll be back to reading and commenting on others' blogs more frequently. It's been very difficult sorting through and deciding which clothes to bring and which to leave behind. What kills me most is all the shoes I'm leaving here in Massachusetts. I'll miss my candy apple red pumps, my cowboy boots, and my rainbow of Chuck Taylors the most. I am stoked on being able to go shopping in New York City again, though, even if I won't have very much money.

Today I wore this pink lacy tube dress with a couple things that each kind of gave it a different vibe... A jacket from Filene's basement (that smells like oranges for some reason), and a shrunken black cardigan.

My eyes made me look sickly today, so I threw on some sunglasses.

I'm not sure how everything I'm wearing came together into one outfit, it just kind of happened that way.

Darling blogger Sam of Daily Fashion Boost has this Fornarina blouse, I believe, and when I saw it on 1site1price.com I simply couldn't resist it! I'd been looking for a blouse just like it for so long. The site sells everything for $29.99... Canadian dollars, too, meaning my order was $32.34 (USD) including shipping! Do check it out. I had issues tying the pussy bow in a way that I liked, though.

The Warmest Knit Sweater I Own

My goal for today was to keep warm because it feels like I'm living in the arctic circle lately. This sweater did the trick. I ended up with a green v-neck under it, though, to make things less itchy.

Kind of boring. But I'm a big fan of fair isle.

I hate boots with wedge heels, but these are the warmest boots I own! Why do I own them? I was 17 when I got them... Tastes change.

Normally I avoid dresses that go below my knees because they make my legs look short, but something about this dress... I like it a lot. Probably because it looks like wallpaper.

Yesterday I went for breakfast with my boyfriend, worked, and had my friends Nicole and Barbara over. We decided we want to move to Hawaii. I am seriously considering it. Pros/cons, anyone? Today I worked and shopped and now I'm about to go bake some red velvet cupcakes. Enjoy!

So I wanted to wear these cute little shoes I've never worn, but didn't think black tights would be good enough, so I raided my drawer full of tights and found these pretty white lace tights that I didn't know I had and they turned out to be just what I needed. My bag makes me giddy, too. I love structured bags.

I went window shopping on Etsy today because after I got home at around noon from a stay at my boyfriend's house, I haven't left my house. My car is trapped in my driveway and while I was tempted to go thrifting, I haven't been feeling that irresistable urge to spend all of my money the second I get it lately. It's actually quite relieving. I haven't shopped much for myself since Christmas, and I'm still sitting on a fistful of gift cards... Here's some stuff I would love to own, but for one reason or another, I'm not buying!! I never became a recessionista, per se, I've just always been broke!

I actually really want a pair of these shoes, but these aren't my size. I guess my problem is not knowing what key words to search for with these. Anyone know anything specific that'd help me out?

Cute dress. Oh, and it would fit me? Oh, balls. I just know I'd never wear it because it's a tube dress.

I've been thrifting sequined things like crazy lately. Otherwise, this dress might tempt me to buy it.

I just got back from getting coffee with my friend Kristin (who I worked with for the two week stint I did at H&M) and it was really awesome getting to catch up with her. In other nerdy news, I've been geeking out and watching Armageddon Week on the History Channel. Last night I watched 7 Signs of the Apocalypse which was so creepy and cool. Funny story that inspired this thumbs up: I was driving home form my coffee date, and someone in a car let another guy cross the street. I Wish I Could Inspire

Today I got coffee with my friend Mat, which was nice. We caught up on a lot of things. Then I did a little bit of shopping and ran a few small errands.

I bought this skirt in four different colors because it was only $5. The zipper's broken on one, though, and I'm bummed because I don't know how to fix it and it was a final sale. I love the bow top. It's a weird-feeling wool blend, but I kind of like that about it too. H&M had so many tops with bows on them and I want them ALL.

I got those oxfords in August, and it was such a reward to finally discover them. They were so hard to find because I spent weeks looking for the perfect pair and none were quite right until I spotted the most expensive ones, of course. I like these because the heel is thicker, and therefore more practical.

Ahem ahem. I've worn the same thing two days in a row. I love this dress. I love pussy bows. And I hope you'll notice that instead of RED tights, which were my natural inclination (and which I actually had on at first), I chose purple. Why? Because all I ever wear is red, black, and white and I'm trying to steer myself away from that just a little bit.

And the ridiculous sequined jacket was quite a find - It still had all its original tags intact. Brand new vintage! I love the harlequin pattern and the sequined insanity of it all. After looking at these pictures, I see that I have to remove the shoulder pads as I do not appreciate the excess bulk that they add.

It remains to be seen whether I will change into a party dress for later tonight - I have an awful stomachache and both of the parties I was considering going to are kind of far away and it's really snowy out. Bummer.

I Dress Like a College Boy

I attended yet another show last night, this time to see my buddies in Envy on the Coast. I also sort of fell in love with a small band from Long Island called Lion of Ido. They were so happy and catchy! It was a great night, lots of mingling, lots of seeing people I haven't seen in ages, and new friends as always. Some friends were up from Florida and New York and it was a good old time. Lots of birthday wishes and merriment. The boys played well, I'm so proud of them. They'll be recording soon and their new songs sounded killer. And there was a donut cake (literally a GIANT donut with frosting and purple sprinkles, I wish I had a picture), which went deliciously with my beer.

So since I was just kicking around and running errands today and feeling a bit haggard, I didn't get all gussied up like usual. I do love this sweater to bits, though. I love fair isle and I love moose, so there you go. And I got these pants last winter because every boy on campus had a pair like it. They're a very fine brown corduroy. And the moccasins because another guy friend made them look so comfy. Then I actually had a long discussion with my grandfather about this type of shoe in which he showed me all of his shoes that look like mine. So I take style tips directly from guys sometimes. Big deal.

Last night's show was excellent, I went to see Set Your Goals and Four Year Strong. I had so much fun. Today I'm going out for a birthday dinner with my grandparents, aunt and uncle, and my boyfriend, then going to another show. So exciting!!!

You've all seen the first pair, and while these are more comfortable and in great condition, I'm not sure I need to have them around permanently and may consider selling them. My Twenty-Second Birthday

I didn't even bother getting dressed yesterday. I felt gross and had no interest in doing anything at all. But today is my 22nd birthday and I've got a show to go to. I wanted to look a little fierce.

That dress is so soft and comfy it's ridiculous. I admit, I slept in it once. And I love the shape. I used to avoid black and brown together... But I'm really ok with this. I've been trying really hard to break that rule because it's been ingrained in me for so long. One small step!!

I feel kind of like I belong on the Flintstones.... And this dress could be tighter, I think. I look a little fluffy. Look close for some cute pocket action.

Christmas Celebration

Are you feeling as if I've worn enough red yet? Well have a look at this, it's Christmas day and my favorite festive color is nowhere to be seen. I used Christmas to pull out something that was intended by its makers to suit a somewhat fancier-than-everyday occasion.

Where every other blogger has gone and taken the day/week/month off to get into the holiday festivities, here I am carrying on talking to no one like a lunatic. To be honest, though, Christmas isn't a big deal to me. Anything that happens goes on in my house (I live with my grandparents), so I don't have to do any traveling or fussing over anything. My family isn't very close-knit so it's never an all-day affair. Nor are we religious. To be honest, I hate holidays and could really do without them which is why I haven't made much noise about it on this blog, but I still love using any excuse to get dressed up.

That can really just be shortened into "I love to get dressed up." Why else would I have this blog?

I WILL be busy for the next few days, though, but will probably continue to post outfits. My birthday will be celebrated in style, and I've got shows and movie nights and possible dance parties to attend. So, I wish a very Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holiday to you and yours.

Anywho!! I am wearing a lovely lace dress I had completely forgotten I owned. I had been eyeing a black lace dress much like this one at H&M, but when I tried it on in the fitting room, I was overwhelmed with the strangest sense of deja-vu... I realized I already owned something very similar and knew it would be lurking in the very back of my closet. So when I got home I embarked on a search-and-rescue mission and discovered it just as lovely as ever, with its tags still intact.

I bought it two or maybe three years ago off a rack at Macy's for a mere $9.99 (original price: $68). I don't know the first thing about shortening a dress like this, so I did some super secret tucking and folding to get the look in the picture where its shorter.

What I'm wearing is two dress type things that came as a two-piece set. I remember when I bought this, stripes and polka dots were my favorite things in the whole wide world, and something that had both was impossible to pass up. I think it's pretty Christmas-y, but sometime soon, I'd like to wear these as separate pieces.

And oh god, how much does it cost to get heels fixed at a cobbler? Anyone? I bought them and they'd been fixed once, but it was a shit cobbling job and bits of the heel have been falling off.

I was in a thrift store about a month or so ago and came across this sweater. I hesitated, thinking, "I'd never wear this!" but I kept going back to it. I ended up buying it before I left, promising myself I'd wear it, no matter how ridiculous I felt. Good thing I did, because I actually really like it.

I present to you: My totally 80's bow print sweater.

This is my fat little Christmas tree. Nothing special for decoration, but we DID cut it down from my neighbor's backyard (this is noteworthy because I live in a city.)

I have hooker boots. For real.
Fun edit: Later in the night when he dropped me off at my house, my boyfriend gave me a piggyback ride to my doorstep because, in platforms, I couldn't walk on the solid ice that coated my driveway.

So I wore jeans again, and I feel like I should mention... Whenever I wear jeans, people get excited, like "Wow, you're not wearing a dress for once!?" And sometimes my boyfriend tells me it's ok to dress casual, as if I feel obligated to wear dresses to impress people. I don't. I feel more comfortable in dresses and am actually rather offended when people suggest I shouldn't have to wear them all the time.

I still feel yucky in jeans, but I'm dressed for the 10 feet of snow outside, fluffy boots and all! Add in a bow around my neck and some festive sequins and I'm good to go.

Aside from being told a couple times over the summer that I was dressed like her. I really love Katy Perry. Prepare for a gratuitous photo post and lots of girl-gushing. I am borderline fanatical about Katy Perry's style. I know, it's not for everyone, but it's definitely for me and I love everything about it.

Untamed Menagerie

A little bit ago, I wore one of my pieces from an Etsy shop called Untamed Menagerie. This mother-daughter team crafts silhouette pendants and jewelry from acrylic. The jewelry ranges from classic to gothic to just plain cute. And they're such sweet girls. I own two pieces so far.

I bought my first necklace, the "Curiouser" necklace after having stumbled upon their shop in an Alice and Wonderland themed search. Less than a week after receiving it, I decided I wanted another piece, so I contacted them and they were kind enough to reserve me a listing of a pendant that I didn't see in stock. Having received excellent customer service both times, I don't even need to say it, but I love their stuff!

Basement-Dwelling Style Freak

Since everyone else has done it and I finally acquired a gold chain necklace of epic proportions last week (though it's still very tame, in comparison to the inspiration for it)... Today's outfit is my take on a marriage of the fall ready-to-wear collections by Givenchy and Ann Demeulemeester.

I also finally got that haircut I've been whining about. The change in my hair is barely noticeable. The stylist left my bangs in a very sad state, so I came home after and cut them myself, which happen to be the only change you can actually see. I just need to get over it and start cutting the rest of my hair myself.

A little bit more plaid today. I kind of dig my dress, but I really dig my vintage cowboy boots. I got them on eBay for $10.49. I originally was looking for red cowboy boots, but then I thought the color of these was to die for. These still pinch my toes a tiny bit when I wear them, but I'm breaking them in quite nicely, so they were worth it. My bag and brooch were thrifted, too.

It was too dark in my living room, so I got out of there fast. Maybe next time!

What's weird is the color of my bag and the color of my boots are really similar in plain light, but my flash makes my bag look a little icky. Poor bag.

Got this for $6 at a thrift store. It's real leather and needed a little restoring (which still didn't take out all the stains), but it's a cool little bag.

Tonight I tried to keep it simple. My boyfriend LOVES me in jeans and I HATE me in jeans, so I chose a pair of leopard pants as a compromise. They're not denim, but they've got a button and a zipper and I think they're close enough to jeans to please him. They're also another example of a simple rule that I live by: If it makes me laugh, I'll probably buy it. These have a slightly purplish hue to them that I didn't notice before.

The sweater I've got on has hung in my closet since high school and I don't think I've ever worn it out of the house. That changed today, though I felt like a yeti. I threw on a long basic tee (which I cut into a v-neck so it didn't show) underneath it for bonus layering points.

I was having a bad face day again, so I'm pulling the Cousin It thing. My pictures turned out extra spotty today. Oh well! I had to take them in a hurry.

Droolworthy boots (that I plan on wearing soon, clearly) lurking in the background.

My bedroom walls haven't changed since high school. Time to redecorate, methinks.

The yellow was reflecting off the walls and onto my blazer for some reason. It's not even shiny.

It warmed up a lot today. Enough for me to wear just a thin jacket, but it's nasty and rainy outside and just awful. I dressed to cheer myself up some. This reindeer cardigan from H&M made me giggle, so I bought it. End of story. It's probaby the most fun thing I've ever bought from H&M.

My, what yucky thighs I have. They're the main reason I never wear jeans any more.

Yesterday I didn't even change out of my pajamas. Today I've tried to polish myself up a bit. I really, really loved the dress I'm wearing over the summer, though it's actually a size too big. I've added tights, a leather jacket, and these precious shoes (I used to wear it with red strappy sandals) to warm it up.

Recently I passed up a $10 real leather motorcycle jacket at a thrift store just because I already had this faux leather jacket at home and knew the real one would never get any wear. Plus, it doesn't hurt not to wear dead animals.

The dress is actually more navy, but since I wasn't able to take pictures with any daylight today, I had to make do with flash, which made my navy into a brighter blue.

No scarf.

Just the dress. I can NOT get rid of this red eye. I don't have Photoshop.

I bought these fiery red patent leather pumps in an effort to get myself wearing heels more often because I (as I've mentioned) have tragically short legs. These are incredibly comfortable. I think I could get used to this.

This is what I wore out last night after work. I am please to announce that I have finally acquired boots that are the exact color I've been looking for since August. Other than that, I dressed to keep warm because it was freezing and extremely windy last night. The cardigan I wore is the softest, warmest thing ever. It's roomy, slouchy, and works with the shape of my skirt! And to think I originally bought it only because it was $10 and I couldn't say no.

This skirt looks eerily similar to my other black, high-waisted, button-down skirt from H&M (the one with the suspenders). They sure know how to beat a trend to death.

In case you can't tell, I'm becoming more comfortable in front of a camera.

I'd prefer real cable knit to this silly fake look, but I'll take what I can get. I was so worried about crushing those pleats.

I scored a Gunne Sax dress on eBay for $22. I'm calling it my first as if it won't be my last, and for some reason, I think I'm right in saying so. It's a sickness and I've caught it in the worst way.

This dress fits like a glove. I don't usually like long dresses or anything that goes past my knees
because I have pitifully short legs (which is SO not fair), but I'm making an exception for this lovely thing.

So nice that my kitchen is from the same decade as the dress.

I love the shiny gold piping around the seams.

I made this from a ring that you from those a 25-cent machines, and the leather cord from a necklace I got for free with a shirt or something. Nobody likes this necklace but me.

So I got really lucky and thrifted all three of these items the other day in one trip to my regular thrift store; the sequin top, the faux fur jacket, and the faux leather skirt (and the tights are from the outfit I posted earlier).

Excuse my disaster of a bedroom, I was in the middle of ripping apart my closet and dreaming up outfits for next week. Speaking of which, that purse is so yummy. You'll see it next week. FYI, the calendar behind me is still sitting on July 2007. My TV hasn't been used since about then, either.

Johnny Cupcakes Faves.

Sorry for two non-outfit posts in a row. I'll post an outfit later today, but...

Being from Boston, I feel like I have to bring up Boston-based t-shirt designer Johnny Cupcakes. A few years ago when I used to frequent gigs at the Avalon (R.I.P.) on Lansdowne Street in Boston, this short little guy who called himself Johnny Cupcakes would show up at every show and he'd have some of his shirts to offer the bands after their shows. This was an excellent publicity move on Johnny's part. His shirts became popular incredibly fast. Kids everywhere wanted a Johnny Cupcakes t-shirt. The first boutique was opened in Boston, plus there's a location in Los Angeles, several boutiques worldwide that carry Johnny Cupcakes items, and an online shop.

Another great thing about them, they're printed on American Apparel tees, which I think fit best. And let's be honest... Who doesn't love cupcakes?

If this looks familiar to anyone who's ever visited my StyleMob account, I'm re-wearing this outfit because I love every single piece of it. Some pictures are from my old camera when I wore it the first time. Some are from today, particularly a lot of the detail photos. Floral print has been my latest obsession since around mid-summer. But no worries, there's a new coat in the mix as well!!

Last October, I went to dye it dark brown to cover up my red hair and it ended up jet black, but I loved it. It's been over a year and my hair is all grown out and back to my natural hair color. I want it to be black again, but the thing that's holding me back is all the time I put into growing my hair this long and having it all be natural. Hmmm.

Please excuse the utter ridiculousness of this picture, it was Halloween 2007. Should I go back to black?

I bought this coat to match a pair of grey shoes. It's by XOXO and seems rather 80's-ish to me because the shoulders are a bit squared. I might alter that once I know my way around my new sewing machine. The fur is fake, but it's still very warm, which I totally need to make it through a Boston winter.

I have a new camera!! It's this pretty baby:

My boyfriend bought it for me on Wednesday for no apparent reason. In a couple of days or so, you'll be seeing new pictures from this camera, I hope. Once I get time to play around with it and learn how to use it, I'll make the switch. I decided against saving for an even fancier camera. I can't justify buying a more expensive camera because with my track record of destroying a camera every year or two, it's not a risk I'd be wise to take.

But oh, 10x optical zoom and manual modes? Good enough for me! The camera I'm surviving with now has a 10x optical zoom, but no image stabilizer and limited options, which makes it essentially useless. It's cool looking, though.

I've got work very shortly, and the dress code is: a black or white shirt and black or khaki bottoms. I prefer not to wear white and don't really like khakis either, so I'm always dressed in all black for work. I have loads of black clothes, but when I'm not at work, it's hard to catch me wearing solid black from head to toe.

That being said, I definitely ate way too much yesterday. I went to my boyfriend's family's for Thanksgiving and ate more than I should have on account of my feeling like I should pile my plate a mile high. But that's how that goes. So I figured, what better day to wear all black than the day after a Thanksgiving feast where its slimming effect is practically crucial?

Lately I've been retreating to the basement to shoot my outfits. Gritty.

This dress was one of my most recent eBay finds. It's not vintage, and I paid just under retail for it. I wouldn't say that's exactly living the eBay dream, but I had a craving for cream/off-white lace and this one is Jovovich-Hawk for Target.

I don't mean to brag, but I am the reigning queen of red eye.

I am most assuredly a details person. Can't you tell?

My legs are thanking me, because I've started pulling out my thicker tights. These ribbed bamboo ones are only slightly thicker than normal ones, but they're warmer for sure.

I'm not crazy about jackets with 3/4 sleeves, but this one was too cute (and too cheap!) to pass up.

I bought my monocle necklace, which you'll see below, at the Marc Jacobs store on Newbury Street in Boston recently. I'd been working just across the street and a coworker wanted to stop in. Needless to say I didn't walk out empty-handed.

This hoodie in the style of a motorcycle jacket sent me into a panic when I saw it. I'd been looking for a similar jacket since 2005, and when I saw this on Wet Seal's website, I literally wanted to jump through my monitor and grab it. I went to order it, and they didn't have my size. It was late, past the time when stores normally close, so I had to wait until the next day to run to the store and pray it was in stock. I couldn't sleep. But fortunately, the next morning I found one at the store near me and took it home. Lucky me, I love it.

And the reason I wanted the jacket so bad? Mikey Way circa 2005. Back in the day when I was just a baby and listened to My Chemical Romance, their bassist had this killer jacket with an asymmetrical zipper that I completely flipped for. See:

I know almost nobody is reading this just yet because I haven't put myself out there. I feel like I should have a few more entries under my belt, then hopefully I'll be able to get the word out about my blog.

The inspiration for today's outfit was ripped straight from H&M's fall color combinations. If you've worked in an H&M store lately (which I did for two weeks before I decided I'd rather keep my old job. Whoops.) or are even somewhat observant, you'll have noticed these colors being stuck together all over the store. I think they go together quite nicely. My wonderful boyfriend accompanied me and bought both the skirt and top I'm wearing as gifts. Bless him for encouraging me to go shopping with him.

I guess I can be consoled by the fact that it's much too big for me anyway. If it's your size, you can get it from goldlionvintage on eBay if you haven't already spent all your money like I did, though.

I've actually seen three different variations of this dress in the past month. I can always hope there'll be another.

This outfit is kind of shapeless, but that sweater is so, so warm. Just something I threw on after work to go out for ice cream. And then I took a nap. If I was to venture a guess, I'd say this dress is probably from the late 80's or so.

Sorry it's taken me a few to get myself situated. I've been sick and kind of camera shy because of it, but I think I'm ready to get posting now. Here is my very first outfit du jour!

I don't know how I feel about big, flowy blouses just yet, but I'm giving them a go. I walked by this blouse about 10 times at Target on various trips before finally giving in to its charm. I've started this blog in an effort to become more adept at finding great, unique stuff, and, more importantly, at dressing myself up quite nicely in the process.
