Black Sweatery Things

Not much to say for today. I'm still sick and feeling awful, but I'm starting my new classes. This morning I had feature/magazine writing and copy editing back to back with the same teacher, who I had last semester and whom I like a whole lot. Later I have some media law class. Fun fact: I hate law and politics.

My hair was in no way presentable today. Voila, a hat.

A different kind of style book entirely. Anyone else a journalism major?

Instead of hiding my ugly mug away for the duration of my sickness, I've decided to just go with it and have fun. This was some honest-to-goodness real nose-blowing action.

Meds.

Ogres have layers. Onions have layers. You get it?

Today is the first day of classes for me. I've already been to my photojournalism class and the weather was miserable. I took these photos after braving the snow and freezing rain, so my hair was a little damp and my boots were soaked through. Not only that, but I woke up sick this morning, so pardon mine and my room's appearance. I have one class left today, my fairy tales in English & American literature class. Sweet.

Yes, I am wearing striped jeans, which kept sneaking out of my boots. I was going to make them into skinny jeans, but I forgot I had them until last week or so.

Weird face. I don't care though, I'm all about embracing who I am... I guess.

Mean face.

My mini bagel makes an appearance. I was hungry!! And apparently chewing.

Layers.

I was obviously not ready for this picture and after I saw it, I laughed and laughed. Very candid.

Sweater: Forever 21
Tank: Forever 21
Jeans: Farlow Jeans (Big 80's brand, apparently.)

So Lovely. So Lazy.

I've wasted no time going shopping here on Long Island... I hit up the Roosevelt Field Mall, which happens to be one of the most amazing malls I've ever seen, as well as the closest mall to me currently... Even though I can't afford half of the stores, I can go and drool on everything. I bought a skirt from American Apparel, a pair of Diesel jeans (my wallet is crying), some great stuff I've been eying from Forever 21, some makeup at Sephora, and a new battery for my Swatch (yep, I own a Swatch).

These are my new babies (from Diesel's website):

For future reference, the style was Lowky 008SI I got size 25x32.

Check the studs.

You'll see my own pictures and the rest of that in due time. I still haven't worn anything interesting/presentable since I got here, just black skirts, leggings, v-necks, and the same old pair of boots. But classes start tomorrow so I'll have to scrape something together. Until then, here are two things from trashy.com that I wish I could own:

These boots are awesome. I don't know what else to say about them, they're just great.

This hat is sweet, but it seems a bit silly to spend $175 on something I'd never have a reason to wear. Gorgeous, though.

Also, I was tagged again like a week or two ago by Amy of Fashions fade, style is forever.

I'm tagging... You. As in, whoever wants to do this.

10 Things I Adore:
1. Going to shows and seeing live music.
2. Zombie movies.
3. Traveling. I hope to actually get to travel someday, because I want to see so many places but have never gotten the chance.
4. Baking new, different things. Also, eating those baked goods.
5. Lolcats.
6. Space-saving storage solutions.
7. Alliteration (see above).
8. Scrubs. I own every season on DVD.
9. Starbucks. Everywhere I go, their baristas are so pleasant. And OMGCOFFEE.
10. Everything from Scandinavia. Hello, most stylish people ever.

10 Things I Loathe
1. Covers of songs that just SHOULD NOT be covered - Like anything by the Cure or Queen or Led Zeppelin. NO, musicians. Don't touch. And also that tear-inducingly AWFUL country version of "Life is a Highway" from the Cars soundtrack. Bad covers hurt my heart.
2. People who don't pay attention to where they're going in the mall/any given store and don't realize (or care!) that they're in my way.
3. Being interrupted.
4. Seagulls.
5. Cold weather. But I do like dressing in winter clothes. Quite a conundrum.
6. When I'm hanging out one-on-one with a friend and they never stop texting. It's incredibly rude.
7. People with huge amounts of spending money. Whatever, I can hate because I'm jealous, right?
8. People who do lame things just to feel validated. For example, girls who follow bands around just to try and get close with them.
9. Cutting my toenails.
10. Sarah Jessica Parker's style on Sex and the City. There, I said it, and no, it's not a crime. I know every fashionista just adored her, but I didn't get it. Yuck.

5 Random Facts About myself
1. I'm directly descended (like, 12th great-granddaughter or something) from Roger Conant, the person who founded my hometown of Salem, Massachusetts in 1626. (Salem Witch Trials, anyone?)
2. I've never had a sunburn. I used to be really tan as a kid, but now when I go out in the sun, I don't tan or burn at all.
3. I CAN NOT multiply two two-digit numbers together, even if I try to do it out on paper. I never learned how. I hate math and I refuse to do it.
4. I've slept on more strangers' floors than I care to divulge.
5. I have had a crush on Jason Schwartzman since Rushmore came out in like, 1998. (Ha, I couldn't think of any more facts...)

I Love the 80's

I was going through all the pictures on my computer and I came across some pictures from a random trip to Philadelphia a little over a year ago... My friends and I decided to hit Philly up 80s style, and I still think the outfit I put together was excellent:

I have no idea what this face is. I loved the purple walls and they matched my pants. This was in the bathroom at the Trocadero Balcony.

I make pleasant faces.

I think I might want my black hair back.

Not pictured were my hot pink and neon green Kangaroos sneakers.

T-shirt: Some dumpy shop, NYC.
Jacket: Gap
Hoodie: H&M
Jeans: Target
Shoes: Kangaroos
Glasses: DKNY
Headband: Borrowed (and subsequently stolen) from my friend.
Earrings: Don't remember.
Necklaces: Dollar store somewhere in Poughkeepsie.

And aw, here are some Facebook pictures of that rainbow cake I said I made with my friends a week or two ago... Some were taken with my friend's digital SLR and some are my cell phone photos, but whatever. I know how much you all liked my red velvet cupcakes, so enjoy.

Batter, unmixed.

The cake before it went into the oven.

We also made star-shaped rainbow cupcakes.

They turned out like this.

The cake looked like this.

And this was what it looked like inside.

Nicole and I.

And my, how I've changed in a year.

Katy Perry Part Three

Since I've just moved in and I'm feeling a little tired and run down, I will provide you with a bit more inspiration from my favorite, Katy Perry! All original images came from last.fm and/or Google image search.

Katy looks like a strawberry here.

Nice shot.

Ditto, but not great quality.

Nice face?

You know how I feel about florals and full skirts by now.

I just love leopard.

I like the backdrop of this best, to be honest.

Favorite spring/summer color combo.

I want her shirt.

I posted a different picture from this shoot last time, but I like this shot too.

Cute!!! Panda!

So pretty and colorful.

Fruit love.

I like those shoes for some reason...

I kind of like everything about this one.

Fly Like Paper

Just so you know, I'm moving back to school in New York (Long Island, to be exact) tomorrow, which is why I haven't really been able to read very many blogs lately and catching up is going to be impossible, but once I get settled again, I'll be back to reading and commenting on others' blogs more frequently. It's been very difficult sorting through and deciding which clothes to bring and which to leave behind. What kills me most is all the shoes I'm leaving here in Massachusetts. I'll miss my candy apple red pumps, my cowboy boots, and my rainbow of Chuck Taylors the most. I am stoked on being able to go shopping in New York City again, though, even if I won't have very much money.

Today I wore this pink lacy tube dress with a couple things that each kind of gave it a different vibe... A jacket from Filene's basement (that smells like oranges for some reason), and a shrunken black cardigan.

My eyes made me look sickly today, so I threw on some sunglasses.

Does anyone even own footless tights any more?

See, my eyes look sick-ish. Hope that doesn't mean I'm getting sick.

Dress: Forever 21
Cardigan: The Limited
Jacket: Filene's Basement
Footless tights: Target
Shoes: Aeropostale
Sunglasses: I forget and I wish I knew.
Hair ribbon: Off of a present (as usual).

Closet Vomit

I'm not sure how everything I'm wearing came together into one outfit, it just kind of happened that way.

Darling blogger Sam of Daily Fashion Boost has this Fornarina blouse, I believe, and when I saw it on 1site1price.com I simply couldn't resist it! I'd been looking for a blouse just like it for so long. The site sells everything for $29.99... Canadian dollars, too, meaning my order was $32.34 (USD) including shipping! Do check it out. I had issues tying the pussy bow in a way that I liked, though.

I can hear the ocean. But I live down the street from it, so that's not so far-fetched.

My face is caving in. That or my cheekbones are taking over.

Hi, I'm a nerd, have we met?

Well, at least I crack myself up.

How I ended up wearing these with this outfit, I will never know.

My beloved Betsey Johnson earrings.

Blouse: Fornarina
Jacket: Don't remember.
Earrings: Betsey Johnson
Boots: Miss Me
Skirt: Abercrombie & Fitch (thrifted, though)
Tights: Forever 21, DIYed.

And remember my houndstooth coat? Here's a little better view of it with that outfit from like a week ago, courtesy of my friend Shay and Facebook. You can see the contrasting houndstooth buttons on the black panel at the top... One of my favorite things about that coat. And this is what I look like out and about in the real world... When I'm in a bathroom.
